The NYS Game Dev Challenge Returns for a Second Year on January 19, 2018

The New York State Game Dev Challenge is coming back in 2018, and a huge Kickoff Event will take place on Friday, January 19, at the MAGIC Center at the Rochester Institute of Technology. The statewide competition will once again shine a spotlight on indie development teams looking to begin production on a new game.

More information about the Kickoff Event can be found on Facebook, and good luck to everyone who enters the Game Dev Challenge:

The NYS Game Dev Challenge is a statewide competition for both students and indie developers with the goal of bringing your game ideas to production. Entrants can register as either a student or indie developer (solo or team), with the latter category being open to any interested developer in NYS.

The challenge will run from January 1-March 1 when submissions close. We are opening the challenge “early” in advance of our formal kickoff event to give student developers in particular the opportunity to work over their break). You will be able to submit your project beginning February 12. Challenge winners will be announced at a ceremony at Rochester’s The Strong National Museum of Play on April 12 at 11:00AM.

Winners will be awarded cash/funding for their game (drawn from a pool of $25,000 for each category), inclusion in our (or partner’s) on-site incubator, and access to our mentor network.

The challenge website (http://magic.rit.edu/nysgamechallenge) includes: challenge criteria, submission requirements, prizes, deadlines and more. If you have additional questions, please contact Rob Mostyn, RIT Digital Game Hub Coordinator at rob@magic.rit.edu

We will “formally” kick off the challenge with an event at RIT on January 19 at 4 PM featuring video game industry professionals Simon Ebejer and Mitchell Bukowski of the New York-based studio Vicarious Visions.

This event will be streamed and captioned in real-time. It is available via browser at http://www.ustream.tv/channel/rit-events. A Ustream app is available for both Android and iOS mobile devices; after downloading, search “RIT Events” to find the stream.
